Lead Power Systems Engineer
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Discipline Authority: Serve as the technical expert for all high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) power distribution systems, substations, and main power infrastructure.
·Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of power electrical engineers and designers. Define work scopes, allocate resources, and ensure all electrical power deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
·Inter-Disciplinary Coordination: Act as the primary interface with utility providers, and coordinate with all internal disciplines (Mechanical, Process, Civil) regarding power requirements, equipment location, and grounding systems.
· System Design: Direct the comprehensive design of the industrial power distribution network, including incoming utility connections, main substations, MV/LV switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), large transformer specifications, and bus duct systems.
· Power System Studies (Mandatory): Be fully conversant with the design tools and analysis software required for complex industrial power systems. This includes leading, performing, and reviewing essential studies:
·Load Flow and Load Shedding Analysis.
·Short-Circuit and Fault Current Calculations.
· Protective Relay Coordination.
·Arc Flash and Ground Grid Analysis.
·Transient Stability Analysis (as required).
·Equipment Specification: Lead the technical specification, evaluation, and selection of all major electrical power equipment, ensuring compliance with process demands, reliability requirements, and operational standards.
· Code Compliance: Ensure all designs, specifications, and installations strictly comply with international standards (IEC, ANSI/IEEE, NEC) and local Azerbaijani regulations.
· Deliverables Control: Ensure the timely generation, review, and approval of all power system deliverables, including single-line diagrams, protection schematics, substation layouts, equipment specifications, and detailed wiring diagrams.
· Construction & Commissioning Support: Provide immediate, expert engineering support to the construction team. Plan, coordinate, and lead the pre-commissioning, testing, and start-up activities for all HV/MV power equipment and protection schemes.
·Project Environment: Successfully work within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary project team environment, coordinating efforts with international partners, licensors, and contractors.
·Lead troubleshooting efforts for process deviations, equipment failures, and quality issues.
·Provide technical guidance to operations, maintenance, and quality control teams.
Job Description
Requirements:
PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTE
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent professional registration is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 7–14 years of progressive professional experience in power system design and engineering within the heavy industrial, power, or large-scale EPC/EPCM sectors.
  • Direct experience with the power system design and project delivery for minerals, metals, or specifically DRI/HBI facilities is a mandatory requirement.
  • Proven experience in leading an electrical engineering discipline or team is required.
  • Expert proficiency with power system analysis software (e.g., ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or PowerFactory).
  • In-depth knowledge of protection relaying principles and industrial substation design.
  • Experience with specification and commissioning of HV/MV switchgear and large transformers.
  • MS Office, Electrical design and analysis software
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory; knowledge of Chinese (Mandarin), Azerbaijani or Russian is a definite asset.
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, and project planning capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly for on-site troubleshooting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective internal and external liaison.
